Software requirements for this tutorial
  1. Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - Download from Microsoft.com
  2. Java SDK 1.4.2 - Download from Sun Microsystems
  3. Tomcat 4.1.30 - Download from Apache.org
  4. Microsoft SQL Web Data Administrator - Download from Microsoft.com
  5. Vignette Application Portal 7 - Download from Vignette

Ensure you have adequate free disk space. In this tutorial three drives are used to disperse our installation.

  1. C: drive holds our Microsoft SQL server and Web admin tool.
  2. D: drive holds the Vignette main directory.
  3. E: drive is where our Java SDK and Apache Tomcat resides.

The SQL database will take approximately 38 meg of disk space. Ensure whichever drive you install SQL server I recommend you have at least 50 meg free. With disk drives these days capable of 160 gig space this shouldn't be a problem. This holds true for the Vignette directory and the Tomcat directory. The VAP installer will not warn you of disk space issues during install. After you have completed the install you should check the install log in d:\vignette to ensure there were no major problems.

The following are the user ids and passwords used in this tutorial:

  • Microsoft SQL Server admin id is "sa" and password is "password"
  • Portal Database owner id is "VAP" and password is "password"
  • Vignette Portal admin login id is "VAP" and password is "password"
